compassionate thread about depression and exercise <33333
first off: you might not be at this stage of mental health and that is okay! the way i see it, exercise is like medicine. in fact, i only talk exercise with my psychiatrist, not my therapist. this is NOT going to be a thread making you feel like youre depressed bc u dont exercise
instead, this will be some of the tips ive gotten so far as i enter the "active steps" stage of coping with my depression. for context, i have been seeing a therapist regularly for 6 months and now is when i decided ive purged most of the trauma.
now, i feel ready to address my body and the ways it feels depression. feeling glued to my bed was giving me more anxiety and i was getting to the point where i was experiencing passive sewerslidal thoughts so i knew it was time for me to take some next steps
AND for context i hate exercise and i hate bitches who unprovoked tell you to exercise as if you were depressed because you dont exercise. NO! exercise is just a tool that can alleviate symptoms. and i dont know everything duh
OKAY start small! 5 days a week for 30 minutes is a good starting goal. moderate activity! this can be things like a brisk walk. walk 15 minutes away from your house to a fun location and then walk back. if you do more rigorous activity, you can do less time.
try and find something you like to do. this is an expensive tip but for me its been rollerskating! buying a hoola hoop! a jump rope! i actually look forward to that now and its a big deal since i havent been motivated to even way up for the last 6 months
trust the process! i know youre probably like "bitch im tired wouldnt exercise make me more tired?" YES i thought that too and whined like a bitch to my therapist but post exercise endorphins are real!!!
lastly for tonight, do not make this another stressor! if you miss a day, stay in bed all day, its fine. its okay. its going to be hard and you may realize youre too depressed and need other aids first before you can entertain exercise. luv u all muah <3
