It was another Saturday, ANC day or you can call it "Duduke Day" when this lady in her 40's entered.

She came to register for Ante-Natal and from her voice, you could see that she was tensed and afraid.

I cut her short and asked, "Do you know our anthem here?"

#OdogwuTales
She said no as expected, so I flipped out my phone and played @SympLySimi "Duduke", I encouraged her to sing along, She did shedding tears.

I told her I understand her fears but that by God's grace we would work to see her experience "The True Joy Of Motherhood".

Her Amen drew
the nurses into the office, thinking it was another prayer session 🤣🤣🤣

So she was in her 40's.
She had lost 2 previous pregnancies after years.
She didn't want to lose this one.

I told her this is going to be a "Special Pregnancy", something we call "High-Risk Pregnancy"
• WHY IS IT "SPECIAL" OR "HIGH RISK"?

1. Her Age
- The risk of miscarriage is high in pregnant women aged under 17 or 35yrs and above.

2. Previous History Of Miscarriage
- She had 2 previous miscarriages which made her current pregnancy "High Risk".

3. Some Medical Conditions
She was hypertensive even before pregnancy. Other medical conditions that make a pregnancy high risk are Diabetes, STI's, lung, kidney, or heart issues.

4. Multiple Pregnancy
This is when you're carrying more than 1 baby as for her she was carrying a set of twins, "Mama Ejima".
From her history, I noticed she had lost her 2 previous pregnancies during her 2nd trimester which indicated she might be having "Cervical Weakness"

Now the cervix is the gate of the womb that is meant to remain close and protect the baby until 9months then it opens to allow...
childbirth. So anything that makes it open before then especially in the second trimester might lead to miscarriage.

When it opens like that, we call it "Cervical Weakness" and to correct it we had to tie the cervix to make sure it remains closed till term, a procedure called...
"CERVICAL CERCLAGE"

That was one, what other things did we do...

1. Always on her routine drugs especially folic acid

2. She was properly immunized

3. Placed her on a healthy diet

4. Adequate physical exercise

5. No Smoking or alcohol drinking

6. Regular checkup
Then in high-risk pregnancies like hers, C/S is usually considered.
I can remember when I told her about it the way she shouted.

I just told her "Giving birth via C/S doesn't make you less a woman", to avoid any complications, that's the best.

Her church people tried but...
She saw reason and we booked date as she was approaching her due date.

We got into theatre and I asked her to pray, omoh she made a prayer that left everybody teary-eyed...😭😭😭

After which, we played "Duduke" until we brought out a fine set of twins, "A BOY AND A GIRL".
The Mother was safe.
The babies were safe.
Whether it was C/S or Vaginal Delivery, nobody cared to ask after all.

Delivering via C/S is as much a miracle as vaginal delivery.

And if you think your pregnancy is "High Risk" give birth in a hospital for your sake and the babies.
This goes out to all the "Dudukes" looking for the fruit of the womb. God is still in the business of giving babies but I urge you to see your doctor first.

The church is not a hospital and the pastor is not a doctor

DO THE RIGHT THING

"God Still Comes Through For His People".
If you learned something medically.
If you were encouraged.
If your faith in God was further strengthened.
