Hi 👋
I worked in corporate for almost 10 years and had two HEAVY burnouts in my 20s that rendered me unable to work for over 3 years.

I've changed drastically my relationship with work, became an independent writer and now raise awareness on the syndrome.

Burnout, a thread
🧶
First of all, you might not now what burnout means. It is a syndrome (i.e. a group of symptoms that occur simultaneously), caused by a LOT of chronic stress, usually work-related*.

Burnout is a spectrum: you can find yourself completely collapsed, unable to get out of bed...
I've created a self-assessment tool that can help you reflect on where you are in the spectrum.

It is NOT a diagnosis and does NOT replace a visit to your doctor, but you can use this information in your appointment (you receive a copy of the answers):

Another thing is that burnout is not an individual problem: it's a systemic one.

I chose to raise awareness every day so that more and more people understand how fucked up the way we've been seeing work is.

Burnout IS a sign of our times, our systems and our inequalities.
Last December, I organised the first ever Global Burnout Awareness Week, a non-profit, free, international, online event dedicated to discuss the many layers of burnout.

Here are the panels in English (most of them are in Portuguese - I'm Brazilian 😇) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-jKcSFn2IUPt4Xx2UJ7ztpx2TRxFNBRs
Here is me reading a chapter of my book
(English is not my native language so be nice 😅)
@dolbydigger is a UX consultant based in Germany and he's been sharing his story with Burnout as well. I met him at this online Adobe @creativecloud event.
Last, but not least: I added a * somewhere in this thread. Burnout is not only occupational (despite the @WHO current classification).

There are studies on Parental Burnout and Student Burnout as well.

If you feel overwhelmed, snappy, exhausted, not yourself, ask for help. 💛
