The story of the eventual descent of Okada and his title loss after his 720 day reign was a very simply but brilliantly charted one. At WK 11 Kenny came ever so close to defeating Okada that he barely survived the onslaught of the cleaner.1/7
And thus he couldn't stand the fact that even after a victory it was Kenny who overshadowed him and felt like the superior man. Then he challenged Kenny to a match at Dominion which ended in a draw and thus another disappointment for the Rainmaker.2/7
After failing to beat Suzuki in the G1 as it ended in a draw as well, the ghost of Dominion haunted Okada again as he walked into his next match which was of course against Kenny. An injured neck and all he tried his best but this time Kenny beat him. 3/7
Ye, after this he went on to defeat all his challengers and became the most successful champion in NJPW history but his insecurity just wouldn't let him forget the blemish on his perfect record that was Kenny Omega. He challenged Kenny again. 4/7
Every time it just became clear that it wasn't Kenny who needed Okada, rather it was Okada's obsession with topping Kenny. This led to his downfall as Kenny ended his reign at a total of 720 days which would then send Okada into a downward spiral. 5/7
He lost his identity which was the IWGP heavyweight title and went into a downward spiral or as we know it, a midlife crisis. And it was all due to his obsession with Kenny Omega, his arch rival. This man is such an incredible storyteller it's almost unbelievable.
6/7
Him combined with his biggest contender as the best in the world in Kenny lead to magic. Those stories, those matches, those character arcs everything was absolutely insane!!! 7/7
