things that are lesbophobic that i see commonly and are very upsetting - a thread by a lesbian
calling men lesbian or “protector of lesbians” if you aren’t a lesbian. we do not need men to protect us. stop trying to incorporate men into it.
i’ve been told by men that i’m “playing hard to get” or “pretending to be a lesbian to reject them” or “i can fix that,” and it’s disgusting. if someone rejects you and tells you they’re a lesbian, then fucking leave them alone. we aren’t using our sexuality as an excuse.
seeing “lesbian” as a dirty word— pretty self explanatory, our sexuality is not something dirty. it’s not inherently bad and it’s not an insult. using other terms in an effort to specifically not say lesbian is insulting. lesbian is not a scary word.
saying that someone “doesn’t look/act like a lesbian”. there’s no look or certain personality that defines lesbians. we aren’t all “cottagecore” or “hey mamas,” we are all different and stereotyping is extremely harmful. stop making jokes about this if you aren’t a lesbian.
coming across as if you’re supportive of lesbians yet looking away when someone you know says something lesbophobic. call them out. tell them why they’re wrong. educate them.
trying to speak on lesbian issues when you aren’t specifically lesbian. no more “i’m not a lesbian, but...” or “what about [other sexuality]?” on posts that are obviously about lesbians. stop taking stuff away from us. please just let us have something, since rep is rarely seen.
i’ve been told a lot of times by girls that they wish they were a lesbian, or them saying shit like “i like men, unfortunately,” “my friend and i act like such lesbians haha,” or “girls would be so much easier to deal with.” shut up. you aren’t a lesbian. simple as that.
seeing lesbians as an inherently sexual thing. it’s dehumanizing and all around fucking disgusting. if you search up lesbians, on most platforms, something sexual will come up. stop normalizing the sexualization of us. we aren’t here to please men.
