Phew. Ok. Deep breath.

For better or worse, I've been very vocal about systemic inequities in public health. During this pandemic, I spoke with any media that would hear me about how we need change. I consider it my duty, but it was very tiring, isolating, & confusing at times.
How could we be going through an overdose / drug toxicity crisis, homelessness crisis, systemic racism crisis, & a *pandemic*, & still defend the status quo?

How could system/gov leaders look in the camera, much less the mirror, & still refuse to change the way they do things?
I know many who speak out publicly about systemic inequity, myself included, get DMs of solidarity from folks who can't speak publicly, for fear of losing their job.

You probably also get DMs from ppl in positions of power warning you not to be "negative," or "divisive."
I know for a fact that there are many, many people in similar situations, who feel exhausted, spent, after fighting for change. I hope you know, that you are making a difference, & that SOMEBODY is listening. Your work is important. Your voice is needed. Your anger is justified.
Have you ever had an injury, chronic pain or sorrow, & break down in tears when you got some relief?

Today, when I realized many of my colleagues are now fed up & starting to speak out, I felt very emotional. I felt a sense of relief. I felt heard. I let out a deep, long sigh.
Your anger about systemic flaws, failed leadership, & corruption is justified. I'd be shocked if you weren't angry. Don't let leaders gaslight, trivialize, postpone, delay or distract anymore. Sometimes, we need to get strategic. We need to get organized. And yes, even get angry.
There are so many shady, inequitable, unjustified, racist, discriminatory government policies hurting marginalized ppl right now. I have heard from ppl who feel burnt out from fighting this system. Please take time for rest & recovery; but don't feel defeated. You are winning.
I just want those out there who are trying their best to know that you are not alone. There are many, many people working on systemic change. Please lean on someone. My DMs are open. Thank you to all who have let me vent to you over the past year. Together, we can move mountains.
