The Christian Faith Reasons...
The second reason why I am a Christian is the 'Event Of The Resurrection.'Yes, the event of the resurrection; death is a dream-reality for everyone of us irrespective of the culture you grow up in or where you grow up, death is a question that everyone wants answers to.
In my context, the African tradition or religion gives stories of people who have sort to answer the riddle of death. There are stories of Togbui Tsali or Okomfo Anokye who both said they were going for the key of death and have still not returned.
In Christianity, we say Jesus Christ has conquered death and He did that through the event of the resurrection. The Christian faith can be reduced to the event of the resurrection.
The Christian faith is falsifiable. If you can disprove the resurrection, you can disprove the Christian faith.
For all the centuries that the Christian faith thrived before we got the Bible the event of the resurrection was the very thing that the Christian faith rested upon, because the Christian faith can stand on its own, through resurrection faith.
If the resurrection is true, then everything that Jesus said must be taken seriously but if the resurrection is not true, then forget everything that Jesus said.
As history will have it, the resurrection is apparently true because there have been so many attempts by critics of the faith to discredit the resurrection, and no one has successfully done it.
There's the fact of 'The empty tomb', that no one is bringing a body to dispute the fact of the empty tomb. There's 'The fact that the witnesses of the resurrected Jesus' never renounced their statements even under the threats of death.
None of them was recorded to have renounced the story. Every one of them went to death holding on to the testimony that Jesus has indeed resurrected. People would die for a false belief, that's true, people will die for a false belief but no one will die for a false witness.
There was nothing they had to gain as they came up against the might of Rome. The resurrection has to be true.
And the critics of the faith have the burdened proof or do not have the proof to discredit the resurrection because all the circumstantial evidence shows that the resurrection actually happened.
