I put myself on the Tesla roof list. I got a ping late last year. It was my turn. Great! Input data. Wait to hear back. Eventually get proposal…and had questions. I tried to reach people. Couldn’t reach a soul. No one would respond. 2/x
The system kept emailing me that I had docs to sign. Couldn’t reach anyone. I finally gave up. The emails finally stopped. 3/x
Months later, my account was reassigned. Suddenly I had a super responsive project manager who answered all of my questions. Things were rolling. We hit tons of http://Tesla.com  bugs that blocked me but my project manager worked them with dev. 4/x
I eventually was unblocked and signed my docs. I thought this might happen. I was optimistic. 5/x
As I waited for the on-site inspection, my project got re-assigned again. I was afraid this would be the end but the new project manager was responsive. I was optimistic. 6/x
Tesla came on site to inspect. I was told no major issues found, just one small thing that would adjust the scope a bit. I would hear back soon. 7x
Weeks went by, no reply. I pinged my project manager, no reply. I was curious but didn’t know what to do. I just waited. 8/x
Then one day I got an updated doc set. The price was up 40%+. No explanation, plans look identical. I emailed my project manager, no reply. I emailed a new name I saw in the portal, no reply. I called the 800 number, infinite hold. I emailed my old project manager, gone. 9/x
As I type this thread, I’ve been trying to contact Tesla for weeks, no reply. 10/x
So here I sit with this new bid, no clue why it changed, no answers about whether this could ever happen. 11/x
So what do I do?
It is important to remember this is a roof and electrical system project, not a new car. 12/x
I can’t take an Uber if my roof breaks down. This is the roof on my house and my electrical system. I can’t sign up for this kind of response. Is this how Tesla will reply if there are issues after? 13/x
Is Tesla having cost issues? Is the scope harder than expected? I’m sure. But this isn’t the larger issue. In my experience the larger issue is just that they can’t seem to run projects. 14/x
Until they fix project management the price doesn’t matter. No one will sign up for this experience. Not on their roof and in their electrical system. It will scare people away. 15/x
I still love the idea of this product and would love to buy it. Just can’t figure out how to get from here to there. Maybe @elonmusk can fix. ;) 16/16
