Evan later met MJ on a few occasions. He grew jealous and felt that MJ "stole" his ex wife, and was caught on tape stating his plans to extort him. This was also after MJ refused to help fund Evan's screenwriting career and had cut off contact with him.

This was not a payoff. MJ actually had many chances to pay Evan way before the allegations went public. Initially, MJ didn't want to pay anything at all. He wanted to go through the criminal trial and do whatever he needed to do to prove his innocence.

Back then, a civil trial was allowed to precede a criminal trial. MJ wanted a criminal trial to prove his innocence, however once the Chandler's got their money from the civil trial, they just didn't pursue the criminal trial.

Due to MJ's case specifically, the law has since been changed so that a civil case cannot precede a criminal case.

Paying the settlement was bad advice. It sent a msg that ppl could sue MJ for a quick payout. He even dealt with paternity suits and plagiarism suits. The 1993 allegations set an example for copycat allegations that followed, which led to the 2005 trial.

After Michael Jackson's vindication, Janet Arvizo was charged with welfare fraud. However, the media wasn't interested in covering the facts. They continued to spread lies as truth, and painted MJ as a predator.

The media had a lynch mob mentality and condemned him without any evidence. They treated him as if had a guilty verdict.
