I always wonder about people who don’t like repeating themselves. Where did that trigger develop? Cause most children need a few repeats, most subordinates I’ve had needed repeats, most leaders I’ve had needed reminders and repeats....
However I’ve seen people become absolutely enraged with having to repeat an order at a restaurant or something simple
This thread has given me so much insight! Thank you all for your honest answers. It reminded me of a few things. The male/female, abled/Disabled, & citizen/immigrant gaslighting that maintains superiority. Our parents unknowingly closing off our voice
I’ve also noticed that a lot of people mentioned talking to someone when they are not listening or distracted. I wonder if that is an issue in ensuring you have their attention before you start or in them not being an active listener and just listening to respond.
Lastly remember no matter our reason for the trigger we don’t want it to control how we react. People learn and process in different ways and they may be active listening and still need you to repeat
Lastly, I’m so sorry for your negative experiences with being heard. Everyone deserves to feel they and their voice are important to the people around them.
