Driven by his immigrant father’s belief in education and his love of philosophy, Caleb Charles attended @fresnocity & earned a certificate from the Pathway to Law Pipeline, which provides underrepresented students a path to Fresno State & law school.

Desiree Galvan is a first-generation American who wants to use her English, Spanish and American Sign Language skills to communicate with others. She served as VP for Fresno State’s Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association and participated in @TRiO_SSSD.

First-generation college student Nuvia Garcia saw the impacts of drugs and crime while growing up. As a criminology major, she conducted her own research examining the effect that pre-admonition commentary has on mock jurors.

Alejandra Leija is a first-generation college student who received numerous awards and scholarships for her academic excellence in @FresnoStateLCOE. This January, she was recognized by @SWEtalk with the Guiding Star Award.
Narek Khatchikian was involved in several campus groups including @CampKesem, a weeklong summer camp for children affected by a parent’s cancer. He aspires to become a portfolio manager and start a fund that distributes its profits to social needs and issues.

Alyssa Rivera’s mother was diagnosed with leukemia soon after they moved to the U.S. from the Philippines, which sparked her interest in science. Alyssa has participated in anti-cancer treatment research and worked as an emergency medicine scribe at @CommunityMed.

Amanda Skidmore spent the last four years building relationships through internships with organizations like @CaliCotton and @AgRetailers. She led the University’s chapter of @officialNAMA and founded the Fresno State FFA Officer training program. @FSJordanCollege
James Roger Tovar III’s military experience motivated him to become the first in his family to earn a college degree & become a commissioned officer. He worked at @TRiO_SSSD, helping students like himself transition from active duty service to being a civilian college student.
Lizbeth Cortez Villa is the first generation of her family pursuing higher education. She served as a Scholar in Service for the @RichterCenter while at Fresno State, as well as club treasurer for the @BulldogPantry. @FresnoKremenEdu
