/ I'm happy with how much this resonated with people, but I need to say one further thing.

Another mini thread...đŸ§” https://twitter.com/ndpoet/status/1386876091147640833
/ My own negative self-talk, which I'm working actively to deconstruct, comes from growing up in a world where people holding me to a neurotypical yardstick. ADHD isn't a walk in the park, but it's also not 100% bad either.
/ I do owe my creativity to it, and I have found places where I *could* thrive. For a few years I worked in incident response, and it was a perfect environment for a brain that could rapidly process and react to stimulus. Because everything was in the now, I was in my element.
/ This thread was really a plea to people who don't have ADHD to understand that the things you might think will help us do not, and a hope to understand what we go through, particularly growing up in a world not so suited to us.
/ If one removes the idea that there is one way of doing things, or one way of behavior, and allow us to explore things that work, we can find ways to success. It doesn't remove the struggle, but removing the negative connotations, and talk can help us greatly (original aim).
/ Even in a perfect world, we are still going to have ADHD, but without the stigma, we can just focus on accepting ourselves and doing the best we can with our abilities. I once had a boss, who gave me leeway to play, because she knew I created interesting things.
/ That job was some of the best work time I'd had because there was an understanding that I thrived on the ad-hoc, and could come up with creative ideas, even if others had to do the implementation. But that job was the exception not the rule.
/ You can help the folks with ADHD in your life. Firstly listen and accept it's real. It's a difference, not a character flaw. Understand, and ask them how you can help them succeed. Everyone is different, but there are small changes you could make to help.
/ I didn't mean to write another thread, but I wanted to make sure that the original intent of it was understood.
