Done digging. Here's what I found.

The people who made this have the best intentions and are good people and genuinely want to make esports better, but I don't think this is it. I hope they take this constructively.

I'll list out my findings (thread) https://twitter.com/SteveOnSports/status/1387095176489754624
Esports Cert Findings:

▫️ $400 gatekeeps industry, favors wealthy and hurts diversity
▫️ Heavily math focused (you'll rarely use math in esports)
▫️ There are better (free) certification programs like Google Digital Garage https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage/courses
Esports Cert Findings:

▫️ It's unintentionally predatory, takes advantage of people who would pay to work in esports
▫️ Hiring managers will hire best candidates anyway
▫️ Doesn't solve problem about "bad actors" because they are usually executives/CEOs or their direct hires
Esports Cert Findings:

▫️ "Scholarships"

1. Don't launch without scholarships because that's bad faith and no guarantee they will ever sell them
2. Students don't need to be taking this certification anyway
3. There's no benefit to sponsor someone. No finder's fee for employers
Esports Cert Findings:

▫️ The Questions:

Would you take a quiz testing your knowledge on the history of movies to work in the film industry?

No. You would go to school, network and gain experience doing entry-level jobs or be talented enough for a upper-level job.
^ This is what we recommend to people when we did our college educational events at IMT and FLY in 2018/2019.

The test claims to be meritocracy but the main benefit of taking this is access to an exclusive networking Discord where you need to network and make friends anyway.
My solutions to improve the ECI (or what I would've done if consulted):

▫️ Make it low-cost ($20) or free
▫️ Make it B2B; affiliate orgs cover the cost
▫️ Pivot to being a recruiting agency because it seems the real issue is orgs not wanting to sift through resumes
Oh last thing, this test completely neglects and insults both creatives who want to work in esports and creatives who currently work in esports.

It would be beneficial for both current and new employees to understand creatives' timelines and how to manage resources better.
