An amazing work of fiction that takes place in a seemingly normal steam punk Victorian Era world in which the protagonist finds himself transmigrated into. The story continously unravels as he finds himself entangled in the supernatural underbelly of this new world.
The lore and world building of LOTM is expanded upon in such a way that is compelling, its delivered elaborately and not overwhelmingly so as to retain the readers interest and intrigue. Which I might add it does amazingly well, for me the worlds history was captivating.
The lore of the world is interwoven into current events and happenings that can even be linked to the power system. Almost everything is interlinked in the most easily digestable and smoothest manner once you come to recognize such the intrigue is even more alluring.
Mysticism plays a very important role in LOTM which I'm very fond of. Gods, The Supernatural, and the unknown have a sense of mysticism and mystery which I think current works as of recently lack. LOTM uses this aspect to its fullest to capture the readers attention and interest.
Things are far from face value, there's always something unfathomable and sinister lurking beneath the murky waters in the LOTM world. This comes into play not only with the supernatural happenings but as well as the characters and conspiracies.
Antagonists. LOTM has a diverse array of antagonists, some of the most menacing and character filled antagonists I've personally had the pleasure of discovering. Whenever one of them makes an appearance the feeling of urgency and danger is palpable to the reader.
Not only are they dangerous but as well as charismatic. They have goals and a mind of their own, they're not written solely for the sake of being an opposing force to the protagonist. They have a driving force and objective of their own making them even more likeable.
The power system is something I personally believe to be unparalleled. As I've never seen any work of fiction in any medium come close to the intricacy and flawlessness of LOTMs power system. It's neatly and seamlessly executed, easy to understand and progresses amazingly well.
Albeit easy to understand, its intriguing complexity and well thought out concept cannot go unmentioned. The power system in itself is interlinked to various aspects of the story and uses that to its advantage to build on its progression in the most striking way.
The cast of side characters in LOTM are endearing but at the same time tragic. Although their personalities may vary they are mutually afflicted with some personal plight of their own that they confront as the story progresses.
The story delves into each of their own lives through their perspective. Although they are side characters they seem as if they're their own protagonist in a special way. Their sole purpose isn't just to revolve around the protagonist which the story conveys well.
Discovery is something the reader gets to experience along with the protagonist. The world in LOTM is shrouded in a veil of mystery that the protagonist uncovers progressively as the story goes on. The reader only knows as much as the protagonist does.
The intrigue of discovering the unknown can be felt vividly through the encounters and experiences of the characters in LOTM. each new finding unraveled feels as if you were personally there to uncover it yourself. The weight of each revelation can be felt fully.
My take away and opinions from this story may not be the same as other readers who've come across LOTM but nonetheless I feel if any of the aforementioned aspects are elements you particularly appreciate or enjoy, then I'd implore you to read LOTM.
