I just learned new skills for fighting imposter syndrome from a fantastic workshop led by @ColleenMouw. I think it’s important to openly talk about #mentalhealth and ways to overcome imposter syndrome, so here are some things I learned: 🧵
There are different imposter types! These are closely linked with when/why you might feel the imposter feelings. I’m a mix of type 1 and 4.
A high view of others and a low view of oneself= insecurity.
High view of oneself and low view of others= arrogance.
High view of oneself and high view of others= CONFIDENCE.

Strive towards confidence
Take time to celebrate and reflect on your successes. You did the thing and that is worth celebrating! It is a part of your success and you made it happen! I certainly need to spend more time celebrating my successes and those of my colleagues.
Understand the conditions that trigger feelings of imposter syndrome and develop tools to reframe those situations. For example, understanding that feedback often isn’t personal and try to separate the person from their feedback.
Imposter syndrome comes and goes- it’s not a constant state of being. Everyone experiences imposter syndrome at some point, so you’re not alone.
Find that network to help build you up! Have folks that can ground you, tell you that you’re a badass, and remind you what a capable scientist you are on your own unique career journey ✨
My mind is saturated with helpful information, but those are the top points for now!
