Dear pundits: there's no faculty lounge. That's not just a pandemic thing. None of us have time for lingering conversations with our colleagues. There's several of my colleagues I've basically never interacted with.
The prevailing attitude that professors don't work very hard and spend their time mouthing platitudes about Great Ideas or sharing cues about what was in little magazines is about 60 years out of date, as far as I can tell
But seriously: there's no faculty lounge.
And to the extent that "faculty lounge politics" exist, there's disproportionately longing for a sort of Baker-Hogan figure who can be a Good Guy With A Balanced Budget
