Here's what I think is really going on here. CDC isn't actually worried about vaccinated individuals getting or transmitting COVID. They're worried that if a bunch of people suddenly stop wearing masks, those who haven't been vaccinated will, too, and then they'll be less safe. https://twitter.com/charliespiering/status/1387100835528777735
I think one thing we've seen, at least occasionally, is that public health folks make arguments for practices they want in place for unrelated reasons. Eg early on, "masks don't help." They did, but public health folks didn't want a run on N95 masks. https://twitter.com/charliespiering/status/1387100835528777735
My personal view, as someone who isn't an MD or a scientist: If you've been fully vaxxed, esp w Moderna/Pfizer, you're prob safe just about anywhere. But if you're around people, wear a mask so you don't scare those who haven't managed to get vaxxed yet. https://twitter.com/charliespiering/status/1387100835528777735
And yes, despite vaccines opening up, these people still exist. Some are waiting because of temporary health conditions that block them from vaccination. Some, in states with high demand (like CT) haven't been able to get an appointment yet. https://twitter.com/charliespiering/status/1387100835528777735
Obviously, in about a month, all of this will change again, and the number of people who want a vaccine and can't get one will be vastly reduced. For now, if you're vaxxed, masking is really just about courtesy and manners. That's it. https://twitter.com/charliespiering/status/1387100835528777735
