#FreshEmpowersWomen

Let’s talk about #BodyImage

-How many of you can go to work without make up? To the beach without shaving? Do most things without getting hair and nails done? How many? What about men, what grooming regimen do they go through to be thought presentable?
-I remember the rage I felt the day I was giving birth and a nurse had the gall to comment on the fact that I should have shaved my vagina as not to offend the doctor and that I was gross for not having done so… really?
-The range of things a woman must do to comply with the dictates of what is deemed acceptable appearance in society are mind-boggling when you think about them. It’s time to change that.
-We claim to want to build women up and support each other, but when push comes to shove, we are the meanest of critics towards other women. Look at what she’s wearing. She hasn’t shaved. She’s not wearing makeup. Her hair OMG!
-Most of our criticism has to do with looks and then we are puzzled by the fact that so many women have body issues. Come on…. really ? There is no puzzle, we know where our issues come from, society and us. That’s it.
-For no matter how MSM and magazines Portray women, it’s the way we treat each other that have the most impact on us! We keep telling our daughters they are beautiful, but counter that with countless messages that belie that statement.
-We insult women who don’t shave, ridicule those we judge overweight, snigger at those without make up, and the list goes on and on.
-We tell them not to focus on women in magazines that they are fake, but we keep buying these magazines, we always must have our hair on, our faces done, our nails, and shaving oh my god the shaving, now even an unshaved vagina is deemed “ugly”.
-Let us not forget the biggest of shames, weight issues! Have you gained weight? OMG you look great did you lose weight? Let’s face it when it comes to body image, we are our own worst enemies.
-When it comes to our celebrities, we are even more cruel, more demanding, more unforgiving. Someone gains 5 pounds and we pounced on them like vultures on carrion.
-We have fake breasts, fake lips, fake butts, fake eyelashes, fake eyebrows, we shave our legs, armpits, pubic and god knows what else all, in order to “look” good and then we have the gall to tell our children “looks don’t matter”.
-It’s time to change our own attitudes! It’s time for us to talk the talk and walk the walk! We’ve made great strides in all other aspects of women’s advancement, we can do this, we got this!
-We want magazines to stop featuring unrealistic women? Hit them where it hurts, stop buying them, for it’s not men driving up their sales it’s us!
-I’m not saying we should do any of these things by the way, I’m saying we shouldn’t judge those who don’t as someone lacking and beneath us. That we can not be disgusted by a woman’s body when it’s in its natural state.
-We want women to have less body image issues? Let’s really stop focusing on looks as the gateway to empowering women. We can do this! We just have to change our own perspectives and expectations.
