what is happening in the french women’s national team & why corinne diacre needs to be SACKED { a thread }:

likes & rts are appreciated ✨
first of all

i’m not a frawnt fan, i don’t speak french or follow players enough to preach my knowledge in this situation, therefore, i’ll be using fans’ opinions, websites & players’ words in hopes that you all see the greater good here. i’ll be crediting as much as possible.
the frawnt has arguably the best players on their squad, with legends of the game such as: Amandine Henry, Wendie Renard & Eugenie Le Sommer.

going into the 2019 WWC as a host country, the frawnt were very highly rated & predicted to make it as far as winning the tournament.
drawing to the US in the quarter final, they suffered a 2-1 loss which saw their early exit and which lead to them failing to qualify for the 2020 olympics.

the first glimpse of Diacres dark side came when they played vs Norway in the WC & said this to the press:
Diacre: “i’m strict & intransigent, we don’t have fun here. the girls are very unhappy.”

what seemed as a joke & got everyone laughing at the time, turned out to be foreshadowing the horrid reality of it. that the players truly were unhappy.
On the day of the world cup final between the netherlands & the US, diacre took it upon herself to back her tactics & drag Le Sommer into the mud & claiming she ignored her.

diacre: “I said to her, ‘why did you stay on the left?’  That wasn’t the plan. But it’s what she did.”
to which Le Sommer responded:

“I didn’t think I didn’t follow instructions. I’m not someone who ignores instructions. It’s hard to hear that. I can’t play centrally, in the 10 spot, if we don’t have the ball.”

Le Sommer was made to feel as if their WWC exist was all her fault.
after losing half the dressing room at this point & being blasted by many, diacre held her hands up & called Le Sommer to apologize.

but it was merely a ploy rather than genuine. players grew frustrated & decided to take it on with the FFF president Noël Le Graët.
unfortunately, diacre was tipped off & ended up gaining Le Graëts support which would later discredit all of the players’ concerns.

diacre later conducted interrogation with the players involved, there was reportedly a lot of tears & threats of never playing national again.
three months after, the camp roster is released with Henry & Le Sommer “unavailable”. Seeing as they were long serving captains of the national team at the time, it only made sense that Sarah Bouhaddi would be next in line for the armband. However, that was not the case.
it became obvious diacre chose her ego over the success of the frawnt. to which, Le Graët turned a blind eye to.

Wendie Renard came out with an autobiography almost a year & a half after. Renard explained that diacre held a 3-5 meeting to explain why her captaincy was revoked.
Diacre explained to Renard that she wasn’t playing 40% of the level expected. she downplayed her club performances with Lyon who are European greats, saying that “it’s easy at Lyon, you arent international level.”

idek what to say... let me just leave this here:
to any women’s football fan, you know it’s absurd. Renard is one of, if not the best, centre back in the world. she has been for years now.

maybe it’s not personal, right?

Diacre: “Wendie Renard will never be captain as long as I’m here.  She’s just a player like any other.”
players were being silenced. even with Le Graët:

Le Graët: “I like Wendie, and because I like her, I’ll forgive her. But it was a mistake to revisit old problems, I would have preferred she didn’t talk about this. It’s in the past and it should have stayed in the locker room.”
it’s worth mentioning that Diacre demanded Renard to be punished, to which Le Graët rejected hoping it would end the dispute. Le Graët ordered a meeting between the two & a new page was said to be turned. leaving all issues of the past behind...
not even two months later, Gaëtane Thiney comes forward with her dissatisfaction towards Diacre.
Gaëtane Thiney: “Didier Deschamps [men’s coach] is a manager who knows how to manage personalities and develop leadership. He protects his players, he loves them and supports them, Diacre or others should draw inspiration from that”

she was left out of the roster 2 weeks later.
Gérard Prêcheur, former Lyon coach speaks out, & he didn’t hold back.
with nothing changing, Sarah Bouhaddi has had enough. She decided to take a break from the frawnt. she is seen as the first choice goal keeper of the french national team & is a long term servant having 149 caps to her name. she admitted her decision wasn’t for sporting reasons.
Bouhaddi tried to express to Diacre her decision, but was met by an unimpressed cold shoulder. Bouhaddi said the conversation didn’t even last a whole minute as Diacre wasn’t bothered by Bouhaddi’s decision.
Diacre: “[Bouhaddi] said, clearly, that I was the reason she does not want to return to the French national team. But the French national team doesn’t belong to anyone—not the players and not the coach.”

Diacre is not the right choice moving forward as she continues to leave
important youngsters who have so much potential out of the national team. Katoto was expected to make the world cup roster, however, was left out & when called into camp, was treated unfairly for some unknown reason.

Bacha who has 3 CL titles to her name, is also being left out.
where does that leave the frawnt? the veterans are being silenced & the youth arent given a chance.

so how does the FFF solve this issue? but of course! a contract renewal is perfect moving forward! we absolutely should be commending Diacre for her work.
the players are NOT happy. the captains have been stripped. they’ve been silenced & pushed out of teams. there is no future for the frawnt as long as diacre is there. Amandine Henry has been so vocal in hopes of something to change, but NOTHING HAS. https://twitter.com/footwomensfc/status/1328041532188921856
here are some things i would like to share:
personally, i am in awe of what keeps unfolding & i’m struggling to understand why it’s went on for years almost as if diacre holds a greater power over the FFF. i don’t see why you’d be content with losing your captains & your youths progression over a coach.
