That's not something I have ever said.

/r/Moviescirclejerk has generated such a scary longoid to thrust their pitchforks into. I assume it's to calm them when they don't feel superior enough in their very correct perspectives.

Like, that's the genesis of the sub...
I used to consider it a funny meme that I was the guy who hates themes categorically. Mainly because Bly, Buffy, T2 and countless others of my favourite content are very much thematic in their storytelling.

I advocate for themes quite a bit if you listened to anything I say...
But they genuinely seem to believe it's true because enough people said it and that's kind of sad.
Not that they aren't consistent on that front. Check out another thing I have never said.
1. Yeah, I do. I figure most do.
2. I don't care whether a person knows who Roger Ebert is, I care about what they have to say about a craft, what they took from it, what it meant to them and why.

I don't fucking care if you know a particular guy or not.
The simultaneous condemnation of my superiority complex relating to storytelling while denigrating my pitiful perceived taste in storytelling.

Excellent job, lads.
What an embarrassing fucking thing to say.
These people think writing doesn't pertain to visuals, only dialogue. How fucking stupid.

Visuals are a requirement for this medium. If a man shoots another man, without saying a word, these chucklefucks would claim that's not writing.

ItS ViSuAls.
It's so odd to read because you watch people describe/discuss your personality and your work but it's unrecognisable.

It's not what I have said, it's not what I praise/criticise, it's not what I value/create.

The visuals in film are always connected to the writing.
Here is a set of four visuals from recent media that mean more to me than the sum of all the content each are a part of.

Visuals that are necessarily a result of a talented writer's consideration of the subject matter.

Visuals that, if removed, give us an incomplete story.
I have to wonder where they think my passion comes from because as easy as it might be to think of me as a plot hole sniffer, looking to score views...

I genuinely believe in the script's foundational position for a film, the screenplay, the ideas, the skeleton for every...
...element we witness that tells a tale from A to B. The visuals are inseparable and I find it so daunting that so many people believe the writing is only about bloody dialogue.

Even a harsh literal look at the definition doesn't support that.
I love film, it's essentially my favourite medium. Gets me to think and feel about subjects/events that reflect upon me even if I never experience them myself.

What drives me is a want for more incredible stories and less that make the medium a joke.

Have a good day o/ <3
