i honestly can't believe people still have the SNKRS app lmao (not aimed at you, CJ, just picked one tweet to stand for all) https://twitter.com/cjzero/status/1387058914387062789
"here is a shitty way to try and buy something that we haven't even tried to improve and chances are 99 percent you will fail"
"oh yes thank you"
Keep trying and keep getting upset. The only way Nike will fix shit is if people delete the app and stop entering ridiculous draws—unless that happens, everything will remain the same.
Sure you can try and game the system too, but the only way to really win in the long run is to stop playing the fucking game. You don't "need" any of this shit.
And if the end result is going to be your not being able to buy it in the first place, just skip the whole thing altogether. I promise you'll be happier for it.
But good lord at this point if you're still using the SNKRS app and getting mad about it, that's like hitting yourself in the hand with a hammer and complaining that it hurts.
I suppose I should just mute "SNKRS" like I did "NFT," but at this point I don't see anyone else in this space really pushing back against it and I think it's important that someone does.
It's one of those things where people have just accepted that this is the way it is when this was never the way it was. Certainly not for nearly every drop. Like, you don't have to put up with this. At all.
I think I said this before in another thread (I'm sure I did), but in terms of sneakers in general, this is a golden age. In terms of getting specific sneakers, things are the worst they've ever been.
If you just want cool shit to wear? There are SO many options. Companies push out so much that sale sections on any site have literally dozens of amazing pairs on discount, any of which would have been blog fodder years ago.
If you absolutely have to have whatever specific pair is being hyped up the most this week? Good luck. Honestly save the stress and just buy it on the secondary market.
I respect that there are new sites and apps and whatever trying to help you get pairs for retail. That's admirable. But it's still nearly impossible for the most sought-after stuff. What they won't tell you is the only way to win the game at this point is to quit.
The only reason the secondary market exists in the form it's in is people think they "need" this shit. And Nike doesn't even have to push that themselves! They don't advertise this shit. Blogs and podcasts and people with big social media followings do it for them.
Every time I see a post with "you need these" or "X pairs minimum" or anything like that I just get sad. You don't need ANY of this shit. And you certainly don't need the stress of trying to buy something that is kept artificially scarce just to keep the hype machine rolling.
So many people are making so much money off your fucking misery. Influencers with shit you can't buy, sites promising an easier retail experience, videos of shoes you'll never hold in your hands. It's all bullshit.
Are sneakers cool? Yeah they are. I still love them. But the whole system and scene is toxic as shit now. Consumers have more power than they know, and we don't use it because we're hooked. Just fucking quit. Stop feeding the beast.
You don't need any of this shit. It shouldn't be damn near a full-time job just to buy a pair of fucking sneakers. If you can't buy them easily, don't buy them. Leave them to the fucking herbs. Let the resellers choke on that shit.
Let these motherfuckers try and pay rent and their car note with a full size run of GR Dunks for a couple of months. Stop paying extortion prices for their shit for a while and maybe they'll stop buying all of your shit at retail before you can.
There isn't a secondary sneaker market because resellers want there to be one. There's a secondary sneaker market because BUYERS want there to be one. Stop paying their prices and the whole shit goes away.
Whatever, at this point I guess I'm just as ridiculous as the people who complain about SNKRS every week. It just makes me sad what people are willing to accept as normal now.
So much of this is fear of missing out. Fuck that. Miss out! Until SUPER recently most people got maybe a pair or two or three a year. If you're older you grew up missing out on almost everything! Which is fine! Buying pairs weekly is actually insane!
