I just released my 10th podcast episode.
Looking back, I could have gone so much faster and have learned a lot along the way. Especially with Tech and Strategy.
Here is what I've learned in going from 'never done it to 'creator' in the last 3 months.

1: Just start!
My biggest advice first and foremost to anyone who has asked me has been this. Don't overthink it.
Your webcam and laptop mic recorded Zoom will be just fine.
Dial in the details later.

2. Don't sleep on preparation with your guests.
Know where you want to take the episode.
If you under prep, it's a huge pain to edit.
If you prepare well, it comes together post-production so much faster.

3. The name does matter.
I've heard people say that it doesn't - from a search standpoint, I might agree.
But, I hear 'Modern Multifamily' all the time now, and making sure you pick a name that people will remember... it helps.

4. You can absolutely edit on your own.
This is one of the biggest stressors for most people.
@DescriptApp is affordable and makes it very easy to pull together a polished episode.
I tried a ton of platforms. This was the best for me.

5. Publishing doesn't have to be hard.
Using @buzzsprout, you can very quickly publish to all major platforms.
I see a lot of folks only posting to YouTube - for a few bucks a month you can get that show everywhere.

6. You can't overpromote.
With social algorithms changing and really limiting our reach. I don't think you can promote enough.
Pro tip: use the pod as a reason to build a newsletter for more intimate promotion.
I'm loving @SubstackInc for this.

7. The recording platform matters, but, can be a huge pain.
I tried a bunch of specialty platforms but ultimately use
@Zoom because everyone knows how to use it and there is ZERO fuss.

8. The guests you pick will almost always be better than the ones that come to you.
I've been wrong a few times. But, be selective on who you invite.
