Our 7yo daughter went for a walk by herself on our quiet residential street and SOMEONE PHONED THE POLICE ON HER. She was scared shitless when the POLICE STOPPED HER TO ASK WHERE SHE WAS GOING. She was 1 minute from our home. DON'T DO THIS. Ugh.

Whoa! This kind of struck a chord with folks. Glad the majority of people think POLICING CHILDHOOD is a bad idea. Stop this panic and nonsense, folks. We need to love and support each other through community and connection. 7yo is doing much better now.
I should add: we live on a quiet street with no through traffic. We walk this street every single day. We know mostly everyone. Daughter goes to school with tons of kids on our street. This is not even close to a situation of pushing the boundaries of what 7yos can do alone.
What hasn’t been recognized in responses to this is how we need to CELEBRATE the confidence and independence of a young girl. That’s how we parent and how we will continue to parent her. Also, sorry for the ALL CAPS. It’s been an interesting day (14 months).
