I understand people above the age of 18 are eligible and everyone should get vaccinated at the earliest, but this sudden announcement and lack of vaccines has put an insane amount of load on vaccination centres especially in densely populated regions like Mumbai.
I went to Seven Hills for mom’s vaccine today and there were literally 500/600 people waiting for their token and about 100/200 with the tokens. I didn’t want to risk standing in such a crowded place so we decided to go somewhere else.
Went to Surya Hospital (Santacruz) and there were limited people, but it was too slow and hectic. I am not blaming the people who’ve been working for hours, and I understand it is difficult, but there’s need some clear planning on this. Lot of commotion there. Took 4 hours.
Before you enter my notification tab asking why I didn’t register through the coWin portal, I’ve been trying for the last one week. Couldn’t find a slot. Called up hospitals and centres and they told to come directly.
Also, centres and hospitals either don’t tell or don’t know which vaccine they’re going to get the next day. Example called Nanavati last night, the person who answered said they don’t know which vaccine will be available the next day.
Called up today and they only had covaxin. I am on Twitter and could see BMC’s social media posts to check which vaccine is available, but a lot of people who are eligible for vaccines are not active users of social media platforms.
They end up crowding the centres in search of vaccine.
The point of this thread -
- Plan well
- Communicate well
- Don’t overcrowd the centres
- Reach out to people on the platform they’re on
- Help older people around you get vaccinated first
