When the 2nd Iraq war started, he couldn't cross the border as a journalist, he did in a hidden space of a truck for several days 1/5
He got into a FARC secret camp and spend some days in it, documenting life, interviewing people. He followed the paths of drug commerce across the Amazon. He always wanted to go where real stories where and couldn't spend time behind a desk. 2/5
Today we learned he was killed reporting in Burkina Faso, along with the photographer Roberto Fraile and an Irish and a Burkina Faso citizens. He knew this could happen and accepted it. 3/5
He once said "Those who loved me loved the most radical and beautiful way, they loved me being free. Even though that meant (...) that some day the phone would ring and they'll say 'David is not going to come back'
4/5
I remember him anytime I am tempted to complain about my job as a journalist. I don't even feel a journalist compared to him.
He loved his job, was killed because of it, so I just wanted to make sure more people could see it.
