You pick up a piping hot crispy

fried fritter and take a bite

*CRUNCH* and you LOVE it.

But have you ever wondered that can you be manipulated by your food? Can you be controlled through your taste buds?

Let's dive in. 👇

🧵
If you're reading this, pat on your back - being a human you've ability to distinguish a whopping 100,000 flavors!

Research says - the taste buds in your mouth, your sense of smell, your ability to determine the texture and the temperature of the food work in harmony to give
you the flavor of the food.

Historically, a wasted effort on finding the right food could mean a loss of effort, energy and potentially even result in death, so yeah we NEED these abilities.

and this is not even the complex part!
Dr. Chris Iliades, from the medical industry, via http://foodinsight.org  says

"Taste signals travel first to the base of the brain where some signals are processed. Signals are then sent along to higher brain areas." contd..
"Some signals go to the ventral forebrain where they may trigger areas that control emotions and memories. That’s why some food flavors evoke memories.

Other signals go the dorsal region, where triggers relay sensory signals to other parts of the brain." contd..
"This may cause you to remember and crave certain flavors."

I know it starts to feel uncomfortable when you know that how quickly we reached a point where we see that some flavors evoke MEMORIES and that you CRAVE certain flavors.

Do you smell "control"?
Salt, sugar and fat. The three musketeers of control.

A combination of these can spiral your taste buds into ecstasy.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Moss, has authored a book on this titled "Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us". A must read.
"Employing scientists to dissect elements of the palate and tweak ratios of salt, sugar and fat to optimize taste, the processed food industry", Moss says,

"has hooked consumers on their products the same way the cigarette industry hooked smokers on nicotine."

Read that again.
You know, a virus which is killing people has taken the center stage but what about obesity? Is it not killing people?

Moss went on to add that CEOs of food giants when apprised of the fact of what their food is doing, say that they aren't only accountable to their consumers but
also to their shareholders.

Does it mean no one is accountable? Does that mean we continue to turn a blind eye?

But the primary question is - do you even care?

Probably no because your favorite brand of food and beverages sells "happiness" or
may be if you have those wafers, you can get some "love".

I am no one to decide what's good for you. All I can do is put things in your perspective. That's all.

The bottom line is this, if you depend on anything deeply, you can't avoid being manipulated. Be it your taste.
The green leafy veggie that's there is raw and natural.

No manipulated taste. Not of your liking but probably way better than those bag of wafers.

So yeah, think for yourself.
