... You have to be careful to not address EVERY note as your shot will become unfocused. You also have to make sure to understand the note and why it was given and not incorporate something just because you were told to do so...

... Same counts for me. I don& #39;t want my students to blindly follow my notes. Always ask why. You need to understand the note so that you can fix your shot on your own in the future. ...

... There is also a tendency to not question notes when it comes from teachers who work at high profile companies. Is it because you don& #39;t want to seem rude by questioning them? Do you not want to appear "difficult to work with"? ...

... That& #39;s fine when you& #39;re at a company in dailies, you& #39;re there to do as told (sounds unromantic but often times that& #39;s the job). Teachers are there to help, it& #39;s their job to explain things. They should also make sure to not compromise the voice and vision of the students..

... As a teacher you don& #39;t want to animate through the student. If the shot ends up being what YOU would have done, then what& #39;s the point? Help them with technical issues but remind them that a lot is also subjective. The student and I might have a different idea of funny...

... So if you get notes outside of class, make sure to identify if the note is a technical note or a creative note (if you& #39;re not sure, ask). Sometimes the change just made a shot different, not better (subjectively)...

... Teachers: create an environment where the students are comfortable questioning you. You& #39;re not the end all be all, regardless of where you work. Help the students, guide them, but don& #39;t dictate changes.
