Im not talking about the games you can get on the store but rather Emulation and well known branded games. The PSP, Nintendo Ds, Sega Game Gear and Gameboy advance games.
Now the emulators are freely available on the Google playstore and the roms are very easy to find, Google is your friend remember.
I was lucky because firstly I bought a True Blue USB stick for my Playstation Classic and it was full of accessible roms and 2ndly, a few years ago I bought a Nintendo Wii from Ebay only to discover that it was in fact hacked and absolutely full of old gaming roms.
I just transferred them to my phone and the emulators did the rest.
Now I really don't like playing games on my phone, or rather, I didn't until I picked up an Ipega expandable gaming controller which allows your phone to sit in and connects via Bluetooth. Gaming became much more enjoyable after the purchase.
No longer do I have to use on screen controls (aren't they the worse?) but dedicated thumb controls ala Nintendo Switch and Psp.
All the emulators work with the Ipega so I havent had any issues other than losing the instructions and trying to work out how to change the channel to 3 on the Ipega. Worked it out eventually through trial and error and a lot of holding down keys in combination.
The Ipega has its own built in rechargeable battery which, I've found, never seems to run out. Weeks go by and its still working. Granted I only use it for 20 minute sessions but they are 2 to 3 times a day 5 days a week.
Using the Ipega I've managed to play older systems without issue. Nintendo 64, Sega game gear, even original Game boy games play fine. The only thing that is missing on my version of the Ipega is vibration but to be honest I don't really notice or care about it really.
As a form factor the unit crumples down into a fairly small size and easily fits into a pocket when the phone isn't connected on in its grasp. It connects almost instantly to the phone which I find amazing, my car takes a few minutes yet a phone is nearly instant. Fantastic.
Now to a down side which I think is quite big. I can't find, on any emulator, a way to remap buttons. This can be annoying as I would love to remap the ppsspp emulator so as to play fps games with both thumbs ticks. So far I just can't work it out or the option. Just isn't there!
I paid around £25 for my unit from Red Five as it used to called. No idea what it's called now but its a gadget shop in the high street here in the uk. In fact I bought 3, one each for my 2 boys and 1 for me. My youngest loves it.
I tend to play a lot of Nintendo Ds games on my phone as they play really well. I like that I have a ton of handheld games on my phone to play at a moments notice without having to carry several consoles around with me.
I also tend to find that I play them way more on my phone than I would on original consoles. I wouldn't entertain playing without it.
My phone is small so it fits into the unit with some space left over. This ipega could take a much bigger unit than I have and it's strong too. An issue arrives when you receive a phone call if you haven't put your phone into airplane mode.
It's panic time when a call arrives as you try pause the game you are playing, look for the button to accept the call then put the phone and the Ipega against your ear.
You might look a bit like the owners of the Nokia NGage back in the day (I also owned one of those phones and loved it!).
Talking of the NGage there's a new emulator out for this system. The games look dated in todays world but that never bothers me, I like to play the things that make me happy. I have fond memories of the NGage and had both the original and the revised model.
The banana shaped one was, imo, the better one.
So back to the Ipega. Its very comfortable to hold and is also very light. It doesn't wear you down as you play it. Oh I've just thought of something else, when connected to the unit the keyboard on your phone is deactivated which, sometimes, is needed.
You have to turn it off on the Ipega at the side then the keyboard is accessible. Bit annoying really.
Overall gaming on the mobile is so much better with the Ipega. Without it I wouldn't game on it if I didn't have the Ipega. It's opened up a new avenue for my gaming needs.
