In this #ttrrg Tuesday thread, low level adventures involving dire rats. I'll go first.
A druid asks the party to help protect colonies of giant rats threatened by a vicious Guild of rat catchers on the local equivalent of 'whacking day'. Its a shit-pipe adventure that draws on grim imagery from the start of Watership Down. Lots of small but vicious dogs.
An unscrupulous gang of bounty Hunters have a dire rat farm where they breed dire rats in awful conditions to harvest them for their tails - on which the local council offers a small but consistent bounty. Free the rats, and bring the dreadful fraudsters/evil pricks to justice.
Unscrupulous slum landlord/developer pays heroes to capture dire rats. The heroes learn she plans to unleash the terrified creatures into a specific tebement to drive property values down/drive out the tenants. Rescue the rats protect the tenants, and bring down the corporation.
A couple local wererats or surprisingly articulate rats get in touch to ask for help finding and defeating a vampire who is enslaving their friends and relatives. Posdibly using them to push a sinister agenda with the side effect of making people want to e terminate the rats.
Criminals have some pipes oc the sewers and are using them to commit crimes. While the authorities focus on blaming the rats, someone has to deal with the real threat.
Player characters are turned into giant rats by a curse and need to navigate the sewers, discovering in the process that the dire rats they have previously viewed as vermin only suitable for a handful of xp have complex lives and personalities
Priests of the rat gods - both human and rodent- ask a PC cleric for help brokering a peace between the cities underworld denizens and the surface dwellers. Bad gods and saboteurs on both sides want to maintain the status quo, especially the awful human-shaped rat God of Murder.
A devout rat paladin has gone too far in their efforts to control the population of city dwellers, spreading too many plagues and eating too much corn. Work in unleasy alliance with some rat-adventurers to make them see reason before the city finds out what is going on.
Finding Nemo, but Nemo is a young Dire Rat and the dentist is an Underdark creature of some kind - drow, duergar, mind flayer.
