We’re linking up with @RNLI to deliver life-saving water safety training to staff at some of #London’s waterside venues. As the weather warms up, make sure you know how to stay safe around London’s canals, waterways and rivers #BeWaterAware http://orlo.uk/uYMbS
Since 2017, we’ve responded to over 430 incidents where people have been in difficulty in the water. We’ve also been to more than 180 water rescues involving animals #BeWaterAware
There’s a risk of slipping & falling in or getting into difficulty if you’ve been drinking near water. Average UK sea temperatures are just 12°C. Rivers such as the Thames are colder - even in the summer, so if you fall in, it could cause cold water shock #BeWaterAware
If you find yourself in the water, follow @RNLI's #FloatToLive advice. Fight your instinct to swim hard or thrash about and float on your back until you have control of your breathing and call for help #BeWaterAware
The more people that know how to use throwlines & know what to do in an emergency, the more chance there is of lives being saved. If you see someone in the water, call 999 & keep them in sight. If there’s a lifebuoy or throwline nearby, throw it to them http://orlo.uk/s7nXN
