#IStandWithMaya is trending in the UK. So, a reminder:

Maya Forstater did not get fired.

The reason that her contract was not renewed was not for her hateful beliefs; she’s still perfectly at liberty to hold them.

Her contract was not renewed because she harassed people.

1/
Maya Forstater challenged the failure to renew her contract under the legal basis that her belief that trans women are not women was a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, and therefore she could not be let go for simply holding that belief.

2/
“I conclude from this, and the totality of the evidence, that the Claimant is absolutist in her view of sex and it is a core component of her belief that she will refer to a person by the sex she considered appropriate ” ->

4/
<- “even if it violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment. The approach is not worthy of respect in a democratic society. “

5/
Maya Forstater’s contract was not renewed because of her beliefs about transwomen.

Her contract was not renewed because she deliberately created an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating, offensive environment.

And doing that is wrong, regardless of your beliefs.

6/end
For clarity and accuracy, the first sentence in the above tweet should actually read "Maya Forstater was not fired because of her beliefs about transwomen."
