One observation a nobody like me has made here on AU Twitter, is it’s often the same people who are over 50 and say they “will wait for the better vaccine” who are also agreeing with/asking for borders to be totally closed to India 1/
The absolute hypocrisy of contributing to holding up our vaccination roll out, to wait for Pfizer, but to then want zero Covid- to the point of being ok with AU citizens being stuck in a country where there is little/no medical help for ANY condition right now 2/
You want to keep zero covid? How do you think this will end? To have the risk low, we must get herd immunity via vaccination. It’s not feasible or, you know, humanitarian, to expect to leave our citizens in a country where they risk losing their lives 3/
those 8 planes that were bringing Australians home from India that were cancelled today, those people are someone’s family. If you can’t think of them, can you think of if that was your child, parent, sibling? How would you feel? 4/
You simply can’t be against getting the AZ vax if you aren’t in a risk group, and yet also demand we not let people home, and post news articles about how horrible the situation is in India.. 5/
and cry “this is why we must protect Australians, look what’s happening, this will be us, we can’t risk it”. If you don’t want this to be us, contribute by GETTING THE VACCINE THAT YOU ARE OFFERED. 6/
If you don’t want to, then shutup about zero Covid and protecting borders. Because you have no fucking say on that if you are too selfish and privileged to do your own bit to help the situation. 7/
And, maybe go and read those articles about India you retweet, or watch some coverage of what’s going on over there, and think about how you would feel if that was your relative dying on the hospital steps 8/
because that’s a real possibility that Australians will be among those casualties. And even those with money, politicians, etc are not able to access treatment. There is no room, no beds, no oxygen. 9/
