I am getting furious about politics again - so I’m taking a deep breath & conveying in calm words:
1) the fact that the Prime Minister said in a cabinet meeting in front of multiple witnesses that “let the bodies pile high” is deplorable. Do not give me your heat of the moment defence. Don’t give me your “only human”. Mere days ago the official line was one of denial
2) the lack of empathy shown by a PM of a party that is characterised by a lack of empathy is a key part of the story here. Repeatedly concerns were expressed about approach how the government responded.
3) I felt there were strong echoes of the same sort of concerns felt about Brexit & the real human factor. The mix of government bare faced lies & indifference to both farmers & fishing over Brexit reflect that self same lack of empathy & indifference.
4) This was not the only example of indifference throughout the pandemic: school meals? Schools returning for just 1 day!? Johnson’s words confirm a deep sense of indifference to the human factor of politics. This was not a slip: it was a simple verbalisation of policy.
5) finally: and most damming of all - it was felt necessary to lie about the event. Then quietly change from lying to admitting it did happen but not like you think.
This is the behaviour of an abusive partner: The manipulator.
“Sorry you feel this way.”
I understand very clearly that politics is in fact all about humans; that hard decisions need to be made & very few PMs go on to be thought of fondly by everyone. The past seems rosy to some & a disaster for others. There’s always a crisis that needs careful handling.
However: this government has tipped its hand. It is now clear that from the very top is an indifference to the populous overall.

We are just statistics.
