When the policemen were asked if they had any questions during the orderly room trial yesterday, the inspector said to the boy, “What did we find on your phone that made us collect money from you, did we find something on your phone”.

The boy replied, “YES”

To the inspector, this was a “Gotcha moment” to intimidate the boy to think if he’s in trouble.

Then the boy continued, “what they saw on my phone is a Reciept of a BTC transaction” then he showed it.

The anti-vice man answered the inspector, “Who sent you to inspect phones?”
He continued, “The immediate IGP told you to never check anyone’s phone UNLESS there’s a signal to that effect, the Commissioner has said it several times, even last week, that checking people’s phone is illegal, checking his phone is another crime that you just admitted to”.
Earlier in the meeting with the Deputy commissioners, Area Commanders and Head of tactical Units (that me and the boy were invited to) the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun reiterated that no policeman should search anyone’s phone, said it right there.
