Korean interviewer: “…and they kept asking that question, ugh.”

Youn Yuh-Jung: “They kept asking ‘What was it like seeing Brad Pitt?’” [sips wine]
Just trying to add a little more nuance to the translation here. Folks are missing the interviewer ending with “아유,” a classic Korean expression of empathetic exasperation. 🙃
There’s a certain sort of casual way Koreans will talk to each other, even among strangers, so long as the eldest or most prominent person leads with it. It’s a certain sort of brutally honest and candid and I love us. 🇰🇷❤️
Hopefully someone will do a full translation for non-Korean speakers. This is an absolutely amazing press conference. SO many great moments.
Some of the highlights (loosely translated):
• “for Asians, the Oscar wall has been higher than Trump’s wall.”
• About how earlier in her career, she’d choose roles based on how it would advance her career, but after turning 60 it’s about the character of the people involved.
• about how she thought Glenn Close would win. Shared a story about seeing Close in a play years ago and being so amazed by her.
• she asked Brad Pitt, next time, to spend some more money when financing films. He quipped back, “Ok, I’ll spend a little bit 🤏🏻 more.”
• she talked about how the original ending had the grandmother character growing older (in a voiceover narrated scene) and eventually passing away. There was a scene where from a hospital bed she was too weak to play 화투 (Korean card game). She was surprised to see…
…the eventual ending for the first time at Sundance.
• there was apparently some criticism over the past few months that she was enthralled with Hollywood, giving interviews to American journalists but few Korean ones. She clarified that she’d rather talk in Korean…
…that those interviews were part of the studio-managed awards campaigning.
• she definitely said, “I’m a little drunk” at one point. 😄🍷
Oh, and in-context, it’s clear that the voice in the first clip that sounds like an interviewer is actually 한예리 (Han Ye-Ri), the actor who played her daughter who also accompanied her to the Oscars, sitting next to her.
