We love to portray ourselves as a country that is tired of corruption and maleficence yet we fail the simple litmus test of calling it out when it’s those we like or close to. All a perpetrator has to do is ensure he or she is like through smart PR.

Two perfect examples to prove this point is one KZN born multimillionaire lady who has been chased by SARS and law enforcement for years. All she had to do was commission a TV show, change surnames and alas, she is now a darling.

and then there is my favorite, the spokesperson who went everywhere with his principal regardless of portfolio but he never knew anything about his principal’s misdeeds and never saw anything.

See, there is value in PR but it is not bourne out of honesty, it’s a deception. Unfortunately we are to blind to see through it.
