I've been getting more into crypto lately. The long keys can be intimidating, but there's a pretty easy way around that using ENS, which is basically a domain name system for crypto.

Quick thread on how I set mine up.

@ensdomains @oneseventwonine $ETH $BTC
1. Create a Coinbase account at their website. This will let you buy cryptocurrencies, kind of similar in interface to a stock trading site like Robinhood.
2. Install the Coinbase Wallet app on your phone. This is different from Coinbase! Coinbase Wallet is like a checking account that you use to store, send, and receive crypto.
3. Within the Coinbase Wallet app, link your Coinbase account. You'll probably be prompted to do this, otherwise it'll be in the options menu. This lets you buy crypto on Coinbase and then immediately transfer it to your wallet, all within the Coinbase Wallet app.
4. Using your shiny new Coinbase Wallet app, buy some Ethereum for the next steps. The whole process cost me about $80.
5. In the app, click the middle icon of the bottom menu bar, and then type " http://ens.domains " in the URL bar. This website lets you link your wallet to an .ETH name. Head to the menu in the top right corner and click Connect to connect your wallet.
6. Now type in whatever you want your .ETH name to be. Think of it like a URL. Find one that's available, and then follow the instructions that appear. You'll need to confirm several Ethereum transactions here and in the next couple steps.
7. Once you've registered your name, there's one last step. Scroll up and click on "Set Reverse Record," and then choose your new .ETH name from the drop-down menu. Confirm the transaction.
8. Now you can receive Ethereum at this name! If you'd like, you can also "Add/Edit Records" and add in your Bitcoin address, which you can find by going to your wallet, clicking "Receive," and then copying your Bitcoin public key.
And you're done! Now whenever you want to receive Ethereum or Bitcoin, all you have to do is give someone this name and they'll know what to do. You should see whatever they send you in your Coinbase Wallet app.
My own .ETH name is secret-tunnel.eth. If you found this thread useful, send me a tip for practice. 😉
