Look I have been doing my part by making fun of my friends when they express concern about being judged by random strangers.

My suggestion if you feel self-conscious walking around outside without a mask is to smile widely and say “good morning” to people. What are they going to do? This behavior can only be normalized in your city if you normalize it.

Are they going to scold you? Oh noooooo.

This is people afraid of being ratioed, but IRL. Don’t read the room!

Actually now that I think about how terrified so many college-educated New Yorkers are of saying anything that would offend their dull Warren-voting friends, the persistence of outdoor masking makes more sense.
