I’ve always posted my paintings and other works, but I don’t think I’ve ever explained the meaning behind any of them. What people don’t know is that most of my paintings are actually self portraits. The context of my art matters
Most flowers are asymmetrical, and the ones I paint always are. It’s a reflection of how humans, specially myself, are not perfect. But there’s still beauty within me, like how flowers are seen as beautiful
The colors I use and the oneness is a reflection of how I feel. Reds often represent anger, but it also shows love. Yellow is happiness but also can represent illness. Blue is calming yet sad. Black and white are the standard binaries, but in reality, everything is in gray
Having bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses means that I often feel contrasting emotions at once and they’re often intense. But sometimes one emotion can overpower the others, especially in manic or extreme depressive episodes
To understand my art is to understand me. I often find it difficult to articulate how I feel, and making art is the only way I can display how I feel. Without context, my art means nothing.
Art is a form of storytelling. It always has been. We can tell our own stories and the stories of those who came before us. Commodifying art takes this away which is why I will never do commissions. My art is my true self, and I will never compromise that for anyone
