“While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader's house to say, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” [Mark 5:35-36 NRSV]
Believing in someone or something entails a lot! It isn’t a mere saying. Believing in a thing means to have absolute faith or confidence in the existence of that thing even without seeing it.
Believing in Jesus means accepting all of him, including his teachings and also having absolute faith and confidence in Him.
One cannot claim to believe in Jesus without accepting his teachings and having a conviction to obey him. When Jesus told Jairus to only believe, He preceded with asking Him to NOT FEAR.
We lose fear in order to gain belief. We also embrace belief to lose fear. Even if fear rears its ugly head, we ignore it just so we can take a stand of faith. Not all soldiers go to war unafraid. But their belief in their cause urges them to hide their fear and go to war.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, my belief and faith in you clouds my fears. I would love to hold on to You for the rest of my life. Please keep me rooted in You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Blessings!
