it’s political context and culture talk time!
some of you (a) don’t understand what this tweet is referring to/what it means or (b)think this is incredibly out of the blue and wild so i’m gonna break down what it means and the context behind dream saying it.

1a) what does this mean?

essentially the US issued a drone strike because they claim to have felt threatened by this Iranian military leader. they claimed it as self defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter which allows the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack

occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to maintain international peace and security.

1b) now why was this tweet something that could be considered offensive? the us could really never give sound proof that there was a threat and this attack was, by most definitions state terrorism. am i saying dream supports terrorism? no, he most likely didn’t understand

additionally it appears that he is mocking the people who were talking about world war three which was a major over reaction. here a post of his from reddit about it

2) in my personal opinion this is a lukewarm attempt at a political joke. we know he used to be right leaning, there isn’t anything inherently offensive or bad about that. this is a statement just about any 16-22 year old right leaning man would make at the time

it’s not indicative of being a trump supporter but it definitely boarders on sympathizing with the US on middle eastern relations which is simply a bad take (but that’s for another day)

was it a good take? absolutely not. but this isnt something that was completely out of the blue. dream has stated that he used to be conservative leaning and had some right wing views, this is one of them.

overall it was a bad take but also a lukewarm one that just about any teenage/early 20s man would make. it has right wing connotations but it’s not a pro-trump tweet

it has 100% damaged my view of dream which wasn’t very strong in one direction in the first place, but this isn’t some wild altright propaganda tweet. he most likely didn’t understand that nuance of the situation and she shouldn’t have given his opinion in the first place.
