For my LGBT Health class @UNCpublichealth, I made an infographic about why we should collect, analyze & share COVID-19 data about SGM (sexual & gender minority) folks. I’m really proud of my work and want to share it here with a 🧵 1/5
SGM folks experience health inequities that put them at a higher risk of severe illness compared to cisgender/heterosexual folks. 20% delay care due to $, 17% don't have insurance, & SGM folks have relatively high rates of chronic conditions associated with severe illness. 2/5
SGM folks experience economic inequities that put them at risk. ~40% of SGM folks work in high-risk jobs (job loss, viral exposure). Pre-COVID, 22% lived in poverty. Since COVID began, > 60% of SGM households have faced economic difficulties (ex. job loss, unpaid bills). 3/5
SGM data is not present in all US COVID-19 databases. When it is, it’s not always public. We need to collect, share, and analyze this data so we can create equitable public health initiatives for SGM folks, esp. those w/ add’l marginalized positions (ex. the elderly, BIPOC). 4/5
