The family of the man who was killed by LAPD over the weekend is holding a press conference now. His wife says that he struggled for years with mental illness, and had disappeared from their home in Rhode Island a few days before the incident.
Richard Solitro was shot by police in Rhode Island once before in a similar incident in 2018. He leaves behind 3 children, his wife, mother and father.
Solitro's father, Richard Solitro, says that law enforcement "is supposed to stop, not kill." He says his son was unarmed, and that the LAPD officers did *not* see a gun.
Solitro’s father says that the defaming had sought the help of 10 doctors in his home state of Rhode Island and were referred back to the police.
Solitro was 34 years old. His wife says that once he was located in Los Angeles, the family contacted authorities for help. Solitro said he would come home on Thursday. Instead he was shot 3 times by LAPD
“He needed guidance and and support, which he never received,” Solitro’s father says. “My son...did not deserve to die this way.” Solitro’s daughter says that she remembers as kind and intelligent.
