The position of @georgegalloway on Scottish independence is the same as mine.

That means the individual who threatened to murder him would also be happy to murder me. He would view me, as he views Galloway, as a traitor.

A traitor.

This is what Scotland is now.
2/

A country where people, openly and unashamedly, feel it is legitimate to threaten to murder people who believe that economic and social union with England is in the best interests of those who live here.

Those who don't issue death threats are happy to use language like...
3/

...traitor, to describe people like me.

History has taught us well what happens to those deemed to be traitors by nationalist movements. If you don't know, the short version is...nothing good.

I believe that great benefits come from union with my cousins in England.
4/

I believe that we are bound by a long history, a common language, shared beliefs and familial ties forged over centuries.

I believe too that it is right that Scotland and the people here should have the ability to control as much as possible...
5/

Government should be close to the people. But what is on offer from the nationalists who have control of the government of Scotland is not more freedom and more control for the people...but less freedom and more control OF the people.

This would be "freedom"...
6/

...of the sort offered after Bruce defeated Edward II at Bannockburn. That is to say, no freedom at all. Indeed we would have, measurably, less freedom under the rule of the nationalists should they achieve their stated goal of "independence".
7/

They have attacked and undermined the cornerstone of all genuinely free societies, our ability to give form to our thoughts through our speech.

They have used the seemingly virtuous notion that they are attacking "hate"...when, in truth, they are doing no such thing.
8/

They have beguiled many people in Scotland with banners, flags, careful PR and a manipulation of the mainstream media. They have weaponised the idea of "freedom".

And those of us who disagree?

Who see no hope in what they offer?

Who are disappointed in their record?
9/

Traitors.

This is not how a free society functions.

This is how a one party state operates.

This is how despots and tyrants govern.

Smearing opponents instead of debating the issues.

Avoiding answering questions.

Promising the world.

Delivering nothing.
10/

I am no traitor.

I am not a "yoon".

I am someone who wants the best government possible, making the best decisions possible...for the poor, the elderly, the weak and the needy.

I am no traitor to those people.
