i'm writing a second book.
(was planning on playing it cool & not announcing this right away but i am a middle-aged women with little self-control so here we are)
also it's important to know that this book took three years, several agents (including a humiliating night where one agent laughed at my idea + in the next breath asked me if i'd had work done on my face), two different proposals + 14 revisions
honestly even some of my closest friends encouraged me to give up
but i eventually found an incredible agent who believed in me and we sold to an editor who really saw me & that's all you need: persistence & a couple of truly good/kind people in your court
and i am going on this long ahole rant bc we so often see people's "success" stories w/o knowing the misery behind them. all the rejection of me + this book made me question everything about my career + i felt like a lost loser for a long time
one agent told me he just "didn't see it"— "it" being me as a second-time author. so anyway, moral of the story: i'm 48, i just got my dream deal writing my dream book with a dream editor, miracles happen, fuck everyone, keep going.
