The idea that "Caato/Jobin is the Alternate Universe Diego Brando of JoJolion" is wrong and here& #39;s why. (Thread)
(Also because some of you don& #39;t know how to make an argument without going "you& #39;re just saying that because you think Caato is the main villain," this whole thread is going to be written under the assumption that Tooru is the main villain.)
Okay, so first of all, when people say that "Caato/Jobin is the Alternate Universe Diego Brando of JoJolion," they& #39;re referring to their general role in the story. Clearly neither Caato nor Jobin has any connection to Dio, an alternate universe, horses, etc. (That we know of)
But even with that in mind, it still makes no sense. When AU Diego was introduced, most of the story was already wrapped up. Gyro was dead, Valentine was dead, Johnny mastered the infinite rotation and regained the ability to walk, and Lucy and Steven were reunited.
At that point, the only thing left was finishing the actual SBR race itself. Funny Valentine was not a participant in the race, so his character was not capable of fulfilling this role. There was also a lack of any resolution between Johnny and OG Diego.
So AU Diego Brando had two roles in the narrative. To provide an epic and satisfying conclusion to the final stretch of the race, and to give one last bit of closure to the decades spanning battle between Dio Brando and the Joestars.
So lets look back at our current place in JoJolion. What major overarching plot lines have had their natural resolution? Well, Gappy knows who he is now right? Except he really doesn& #39;t. He understands that he is a fusion of Josefumi and Kira but that doesn& #39;t answer his question.
What Gappy is looking for is not "Where did I come from?" It& #39;s "Who am I?" Like how Johnny learned to walk again, for JoJolion to end, Gappy must obtain self-acceptance with his identity. This is the most important plotline in JoJolion and as of 106, it hasn& #39;t been resolved.
Soft & Wet: Go Beyond is a step closer, being a reflection of Gappy and Yasuho& #39;s cooperation and unity, but it& #39;s just that. A step. Gappy needs to accept his identity as the man named Josuke Higashikata, and that& #39;s something Jobin and Caato are an obstruction to as Higashikatas.
So already, Jobin and Caato can& #39;t be the "AU Diego of JoJolion" because they& #39;re relevant to resolving the main conflict of the part. Gappy& #39;s struggle with identity. But this isn& #39;t even just one last plotline to wrap up either.
In fact, NONE of JoJolion& #39;s major plotlines are wrapped up at this point. You all know this. In Chapter 1, Yasuho states that "This is a story about breaking a curse." This could mean multiple things. It could be the friction between the humans and the rock humans,
it could be the rock disease that& #39;s been passed down the Higashikata bloodline. It could be the curse on the ground of Morioh. It could EVEN be calamity. But at this point no curse has been acknowledged as being broken. Meaning it still exists in some form.
And speaking of the rock disease, Tsurugi still has that and he& #39;s still dying. So that needs to be resolved. Holy& #39;s also dying, so that needs to be resolved. We also still don& #39;t know where the rock disease came from so add that to the list.
Oh and Yasuho needs a conclusion to her arc. It will likely come in tandem with Gappy& #39;s but it& #39;s still something that needs to happen.
Rai and Kei are probably dead. So I guess they& #39;re good to go. But we still need to know what happens to Norisuke.
Rai and Kei are probably dead. So I guess they& #39;re good to go. But we still need to know what happens to Norisuke.
Oh and there& #39;s the flash forward. You know, the thing the thing I won& #39;t shut up about? Yeah that still hasn& #39;t happened yet and we need an explanation to that. It& #39;s by far the biggest elephant in the room.
Do you see what I& #39;m getting at though? AU Diego Brando was one last hurrah for Steel Ball Run.
JoJolion hasn& #39;t even had its first hurrah yet.

The idea that "Caato/Jobin is the Alternate Universe Diego Brando of JoJolion" originates from a few things.
1. People are insistent on categorizing every single character in the series under some overarching archetype, even in places where it doesn& #39;t really fit.
1. People are insistent on categorizing every single character in the series under some overarching archetype, even in places where it doesn& #39;t really fit.
Just look at any discussion about "Who is the JoBro of JoJolion" or something similar. Categorizing characters like this is fun, but this isn& #39;t Fire Emblem. It shouldn& #39;t be used when trying to understand what& #39;s going on in the story.
2. JoJolion surpassing SBR in length has convinced people that JoJolion must have only a few chapters left. There& #39;s no reason to believe this though. Since Araki moved to Ultra Jump, he& #39;s had a lot more freedom when it comes to pacing.
He& #39;s able to take however much time he needs in order to give each part of the story the attention it deserves. If he feels like the story needs to be 150 chapters to convey everything he wants to convey, there& #39;s no reason it won& #39;t be.
3. People aren& #39;t treating JoJolion as its own entity, but rather as just the most recent iteration of JoJo, and assuming that things will happen the same way they have in the past. However, this completely ignores precedent.
Part 5& #39;s ending defied JoJo convention by bringing us back to the beginning with Sleeping Slaves. Part 6& #39;s ending defied JoJo convention by killing off the main cast and reincarnating them, and having Emporio deal the final blow to Pucci.
Part 7& #39;s ending defied JoJo convention, ironically enough, by continuing past the death of its main villain and turning itself into an homage to JoJo& #39;s most famous arc.
There& #39;s no reason to think JoJolion is just going to follow some cookie cutter format for its finale.

In conclusion, Alternate Universe Diego Brando is the Dark Souls of JoJo& #39;s Bizarre Adventure
