A thread on potential new Spurs manager Erik Ten Hag
Ten Hag learnt from Guardiola for 2 years when he was at Bayern, and credits the City manager for his approach. He would be welcomed at Tottenham due to his emphasis on bringing youth players through and wanting to play exciting and attacking football.
Erik Ten Hag was responsible for Ajax’s astonishing champions league run in the 18/19 season which saw his young side knock out Juventus and Real Madrid before losing to Spurs on away goals in the Semi Finals.
Ten Hag likes to build out from the back by using a 4-3-3. You will often see the central midfielder dropping in deep to allow the full backs to bomb forward with the two wingers tucking into the half spaces.
Ajax are able to beat the opponent’s press by creating passing triangles which became an infamous sight in their games against Juve and Real in the 18/19 season.
The wingers also make moves off the shoulders of the defenders, with one of the midfielders moving into the attacking zone, which would suit players such as Heung Min Son, Steven Bergwijn and Tanguy Ndombele.
Ten Hag wants his players to keep on their toes when in possession for potential counter attacks, Ajax counter press in a 4-1-4-1 formation, He also likes his players to 1v1 press all over the pitch.
The dutch side like to win the ball back as quickly as possible leaving the opposition in awkward and uncomfortable positions, something Pochettino’s side was also well known for.
When defending Ajax force teams wide and long as their centre backs are able to win aerial duels, something the current side struggle with so new centre backs wouldn’t be a surprise to see if the dutchmen moved to North London.
The centre forward (Sebastian Haller) stays up front to start the attack as soon as possible, with the side looking to feed it into him when possession is won back. Harry Kane would flourish in this role due to his world class playmaking and holding up ability.
Sorry this thread is a bit all over the place this is the first time that i’ve tried something like this. Likes and RT’s appreciated xx
This is a bit of an extra point in the thread. Players such as Dane Scarlett, Alfie Devine, Oliver Skipp, Ryan Sessegnon, and possibly Marcel Lavinier i think could be players that Ten Hag would push to develop into his system
