Coinbase walked, so BaseCamp could run, so Elon could fly.
#basecamp says political discussion at work is “a major distraction” that “saps our energy".

The key is who is "ours"?
Basecamp stance to say "stop the dialogue" is defensive
Because, as @timkastelle has said, conversations are the smallest unit of change. It's where minds get opened.
So: Stop dialogue = stop change.
It means the status quo remains.
Those in power today keep being in power.
#basecamp sees criticism as inappropriate (or rude). Instead of examining the criticism for learning and growth, it is spending energy defending against charges and therefore changes.
In an alternative scenario, #basecamp leadership would guide, "keep making each other successful".

Which is a way to direct energy so people don't spin out on disagreements. Instead, they are saying STFU to everyone who differs from their POV.
Remember, defensive orgs are not innovative orgs.

It means adherence to existing voices, norms.
Newness and new ideas are dismissed. Not because they are weighed and deemed unworthy. But because the ideas come from someone deemed unworthy of being heard.
