little sherliam analysis thread:
— I hope/I will symbolism

today we‘re going to talk about ONLY how their parts are distributed & how they’re moving around on stage.
yes you read that right. im gonna analyse how they walk around.
sounds funny at first but wait for it. trust me. it all makes sense.

won’t be talking (much) abt the lyrics for now because i just had some interesting thoughts abt how well the musical is doing the sherliam stuff
Let‘s separate the song into four parts:

sherlock
william
sherlock william mixed
sherlock william together
starting with no.1:

SHERLOCK‘S PART

The song starts with only Sherlock singing. He‘s sitting at his desk, burning the letter that contains the name of the lord of crimes (we all know why he did that).
Sherlock gets up from his chair and stands.
WILLIAM‘S PART

William finally appears on stage and he’s standing on the high platform. He’s basically above Sherlock as he’s the LoC, who‘s using the detective for his little game & plan. While Sherlock is now going over to the other side of the stage, William is going down.
They’re both moving but they’re not coming closer to each other nor is the distance between them increasing. They just move. Forward.

William coming down to Sherlock, eventually being on the same 'level' as him is really beautiful in my opinion because in a way that’s
what he did sometimes. He came down into Sherlock‘s... human world. He’s not on top /alone/ where no one can see him or /reach/ him. He’s just a few meters away from him. Also when I said human world I was thinking about the little moments where Liam allowed himself to... yk
be human. Around Sherlock, especially later on the bridge, he allows himself to show emotions.

They’re not standing on each side of the stage, facing forward, singing at the same time but different things.
This portrays their early moments SOOOO well in my opinion.
They‘re not saying the same thing yet but they’re kind of on the same wavelength already.

While Sherlock talks about catching the Lord of Crime etc, William once again mentions that Sherlock is the light that
illuminates the darkness (little light fact here: sherlock‘s light is completely blue while william’s side has his red light mixed with a few blue ones giggles yk exactly how to interpret this)

Sherlock at this point is turned /to William/. While Liam is still clinging to his
plan and looking forward, Sherlock has moved his gaze, his focus, his attention to him and not the goal in the distance. He’s singing into his direction.

PART 3

Then they both walk to the middle. Sherlock and William are finally coming closer to each other but they’re still
not /looking/ at each other.. and eventually, they walk past each other and are now standing back to back.
William, singing his iconic catch me if you can line, reaches out for a moment. Just for a little moment.
They’re so close but somehow they’re not together yet. They’re kind of talking at cross purposes? I think it’s because they both don’t actually know what they /truly/ want. Sherlock knows it a bit better than William but he made his final decision abt saving him 100% when finding
out that Liam returns his feelings yk. William didn’t know what he wants at all. He always says that he wants to die but there’s this little thing in him that wants to be saved by Sherlock and that’s why he carefully reaches out for a teeny tiny second, /hoping/ that
Sherly /will/ catch him.

THE LAST PART

After they say their I hope/I will lines, Sherlock and William /finally/ sing together.

Sherlock realizes what he wants: saving Liam. I will.
William realizes what he wants:
to be saved by Sherl. I hope.

They’re finally not just on
the same level and wavelength but same page as well. They’re finally singing /the same thing/ together.

And that’s when they finally turns around. They slowly face each other. What’s notable here is that Sherlock is the first to turn around, symbolizing how he makes
the first move. Sherlock is running after him and William allows himself to turns back/ look back at him, instead of just mindlessly moving forward the whole time.

And with that, they’re finally looking into each other‘s eyes as they sing their last line together.
That also is so beautiful to me. The way they’re harmonizing while staring at each other... It just shows how they finally connected yk and their dynamic, their connection is a very beautiful one. They finally found each other...
SUMMARY:

I hope/I will perfectly shows how Sherlock and William slowly came closer to each other until they finally found each other and what they want. They seem to be a bit lost at first but once they have cleared their minds, their focus is only on the other and the rest
of the world suddenly kind of doesn’t exist anymore. They’re just there, hoping for a better future together with the other.

Thank you for this beautiful masterpiece that is I hope/I will, Yuumori Musical. Thank you so much.
wait i just watched it again and at this part they actually already walk past each other once and there‘s a little moment where william turns around and sings to him for a second omg
this reminds me of their early relationship
after they just met yk
william was the first one to get obsessed with the other and he kept thinking abt sherlock yk he kept looking back at him
while sherlock was too focused on the LoC (haha) to think about that smart guy he just met
which changes later bc he seems to think abt william a lot later during the train ~ durham time yk when he also starts guessing if liam is maybe actually his dear lord of crime hm
pls i can’t wait for durham date to get adapted whether it be anime or musical tho i’m obv looking more forward to the musical since 1) their content is better 2) they sing = bonus content (lyrics) and 3) the actors mentioned before that theyre updated with the manga so basically
they know how this all ends / where it’s going and i think that can really affect how they portray them (i already feel like they’re really forward towards that sherliam canon end goal like look at I hope/I will and their train scene sobs)
