The Oscars sucks. It's a boring, stodgy, meaningless event. The Spectacle Of It All™ carries far less weight than it did 1,000 years ago. That's why the ratings continue to plummet. I'm all for shared culture touchstones, but…it's so skippable. At least Puppy Bowl has puppies.
And, to be fair, our TV was tuned to The Oscars last night. My wife fell asleep to it on the couch. The kids didn't care - even when Best Animated Film came up, most of which we've seen. There's no spark. It's just happening. The event itself is just going through the motions.
I was busy with podcast recording and other junk last night, but the bits I saw were strained and awkward. It seems like most people there are wondering...why? Mostly, we're waiting for surprises (and fun moments) that never come. A lifeless slog. Tons of history, no identity.
